Apr 12    The Crimson Moon: THE MICHELLE MALONE BANNED & RILEY BIEDERER (folk rockin' blue
Armed with a bottleneck slide, blues harmonica, and her signature soul-filled vocals, Michelle Malone was born in the Deep South and grew up listening to her mother sing in the church choir every Sunday. When it came time to craft her own sound, she took those religious roots, blended in enough rock, folk, and blues to satisfy. The result is, Day 2, a high-spirited stripped down blend of rootsy acoustic slide, gritty electric blues and explosive vocals that harkens back to the lost recordings of Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams and The Rolling Stones. www.michellemalone.com Opening for Michelle is RILEY BIEDERER, who at just 16, has just been signed by Elton John to Rocket Music with a publishing deal with Sony/ATV. Expect big happenings for this up-comer, and an incredible opening set.

Apr 26    Mountain Ranger 5k/15k Trail Run and 34k Bike Race

Mountain Ranger Run Gives Civilians Up-Close Look at Military Training

17th Annual Race Has Run and Mountain Bike Options

Dahlonega, GA, March 17, 2014 Once a year, Camp Frank D. Merrill Ranger training facility opens its gates to welcome civilians for a day of racing and first-hand experience in tough Ranger military training. The 17th annual Mountain Ranger Run offers the most challenging and scenic cross-country/trail course that the North Georgia Mountains can provide, and it takes place on Saturday, April 26, 2014.

There are two running options, a 15k and a 5k, with both courses starting at Camp Frank D. Merrill and winding through the Chattahoochee National Forest in a hilly loop along non-paved forest service roads and trails. Mountain bikers will want to sign up for the 34k Mountain Ranger Bike Race which is for the somewhat more adventurous crowd. The bike course is challenging enough for advanced riders yet forgiving enough for beginners.

One of the three phases of Ranger training, known as the toughest of all military leadership training, takes place at Camp Merrill. It is the mountain phase and only about 50% of those who enter pass the 61 day training course. There will be a Battalion Open House during the Mountain Ranger Run where guests will be treated to a Rangers-in-action demonstration, as well as a hands-on display of U. S. military equipment and weapons. Many of the open house events will take place on the airfield and there will be fly-bys by Black Hawk helicopters, a military free fall parachute jump, and an exciting “spies and fries” demo where Rangers will do an extraction by helicopter.

Participants can register online for any of the three races at https://runsignup.com/Race/GA/Dahlonega/MountainRangerRun or in person at Totally Running & Walking (locations in Dahlonega and Cumming).

Cost:

34k Bike Race - $40.00*

15k Run - $40.00*

5k Run - $25.00*

* Registration fees increase by $5.00 for each race after April 1, 2014.

There will be early packet pick up on April 25, 2014 from 11am to 6pm at Totally Running & Walking, 28 North Grove Street, Dahlonega, GA 30533.

34k Bike Race starts at 7:00am

15k Run starts at 7:45am

5k Run starts at 8:00am
