Lumpkin Library Centennial Ceremony & Reading Festival

All Lumpkin residents are invited to attend a Library Centennial Celebration at the Lumpkin Library from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A ceremony with dignitaries and the traditional anniversary cake cutting ceremony is set for 11 a.m. After the ceremony, approximately 11:30 a.m., the party begins with free hot dogs, cupcakes, Moon Pies, soft drinks and chips. Food will be served until supplies run out.

Tents will be set up around the Lumpkin County Admin Building, across from the Library. Amicalola Birds of Prey, Lumpkin County Fire Department, the U.S. Forestry Service, the Girl Scouts, Lumpkin Literacy and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, the Chestatee Regional Library, and the Lumpkin Sheriff's Department will all have displays.

Three reading areas will also be set up where special guests will read books to children from 11:30 to 2 p.m. Participants will have the chance to win prizes after each reading. One of the main prizes being given away is the chance for two to ride in the Lumpkin County Fire Truck at the 2017 Christmas parade.

Storybook characters such as Batman, Clifford the Red Dog, Sparky the Fire Dog, and Smokey the Bear will also be on hand for picture taking and autographs. 

Centennial Day is the culmination of ten weeks of a celebration of Lumpkin Library’s Centennial. Partnering with the Friends of the Library  for this centennial celebration are Lumpkin County Commission, the City of Dahlonega, Lumpkin County School System, the Lumpkin-Dahlonega Chamber of Commerce, Dahlonega Downtown Development Authority, the Chestatee Regional Library System, the Dahlonega Nugget, Dahlonega Jaycees, Dahlonega Lions Club, Dahlonega Sunrise Rotary, Dahlonega Woman’s Club, the Lumpkin County Library Board, Lumpkin Historical Society, Lumpkin Literacy, and the Lumpkin Retired Teachers Association.
