Explosive, explicit, and profoundly empathic, Abdellatif Kechiche’s loose adaptation of Julie Maroh’s 2010 graphic novel is one of the best representations of the agony and ecstasy of falling in love. Blue is the Warmest Color (Kechiche, 2013) is an achingly romantic film and it also reminds us how indelible the imprint of first love—and first heartbreak—remains.
